Fonterra awards LDX exclusive managed maintenance contract using LDX Fleet Link, powered by Blackhawk.io

Fonterra, New Zealand’s largest company, has awarded LDX an exclusive contract to service and maintain its mission-critical fleet of 600 forklifts across its nationwide 24/7 warehouse operations. Supporting this partnership, Blackhawk.io will continue to power Fonterra’s connected service management platform, branded as LDX Fleet Link, ensuring seamless real-time visibility, predictive maintenance, and streamlined repair workflows.

A Mission-Critical Fleet for New Zealand’s Largest Company

Fonterra relies on its extensive forklift fleet to keep its global supply chain running smoothly. Any unplanned maintenance or equipment breakdowns can cause significant operational disruptions, impacting productivity and delivery schedules. To maintain efficiency and uptime, Fonterra has prioritized planned maintenance and real-time visibility into asset health and performance—a capability made possible by Blackhawk.io’s connected service platform – NEEDME.com.

Continuity in Data-Driven Maintenance & Service Management

In appointing a new maintenance provider, Fonterra sought to retain the extensive contract management and oversight functionality it had with its previous provider, powered by Blackhawk.io’s connected service platform.  The decision to continue using Blackhawk.io technology during this transition underscores the tangible value and operational insights delivered by the system.

LDX Fleet Link, powered by Blackhawk.io, provides two key advantages:

  1. Real-Time SLA & KPI Visibility
    • Fonterra gains clear, data-driven reporting on SLA performance, breakdown response times, repair completion rates, and overall fleet reliability.
    • LDX and Fonterra teams can continuously monitor maintenance efficiency and adherence to service commitments, ensuring maximum uptime.
  2. Automated Digital Maintenance Workflows
    • Fonterra warehouse operators can initiate maintenance requests instantly by scanning a QR code on any forklift—no app downloads or logins required.
    • Automated workflows capture critical fault details in real-time, notifying LDX technicians and updating all stakeholders without the need for phone calls or manual follow-ups.

A Strategic Partnership for Efficiency & Innovation

“Fonterra is one of New Zealand’s largest companies, so to be awarded this contract is a huge vote of confidence in LDX,” said Colm Hamrogue, CEO of LDX and parent company TDX. “We have a talented team of service technicians and support staff across the country, and we’re excited to bring our expertise to this partnership. Fonterra’s focus on innovation and sustainability aligns closely with our commitment to reducing emissions and optimizing fleet operations with Linde’s Lithium-ION technology.”

Kent Pohio, National Operations Manager – Assets, Fonterra Co-operative Group Limited, emphasized the importance of this strategic partnership:

“This is a critical part of our operation. We see the benefit of having a partner that can support us on our journey to reduce emissions, provide a safe working environment, and continuously improve operations through innovation. LDX’s commitment to building a true partnership was evident throughout the tendering process, and we look forward to working with them.”

Blackhawk.io: The Power Behind LDX Fleet Link

“We are proud to be working with Fonterra and LDX to bring LDX Fleet Link into this innovative partnership,” said Gottfried Pausch, Managing Director of Blackhawk.io. “The fact that Fonterra has chosen continuity in their connected service platform despite transitioning maintenance providers is a testament to the measurable value our technology delivers.”

“Helping Fonterra and LDX monitor 600 forklifts to ensure proactive maintenance and improve efficiency for warehouse operators is exactly why we do what we do. Our smart digital forms allow real-time fault logging, SLA tracking, and performance visibility for all stakeholders—ensuring maximum efficiency, reliability, and operational uptime.”

As LDX officially assumed responsibility for Fonterra’s fleet from October 1st, 2024, LDX Fleet Link, powered by Blackhawk.io, will remain the backbone of data-driven service management, ensuring Fonterra’s warehouse operations continue to run at peak performance.
