Indoor Asset Tracking Case Study

Tracking assets in indoor environments

Overcoming GPS limitations, providing optimal tracking battery-life, managing indoor/outdoor assets in building environments.

Overview

Locating and managing and array of indoor assets

Need to find tools and assets when used indoors in multi-level buildings.
Need updates when indoor assets are moved or being used.
Lack of awareness leads to lost assets, inefficiencies and delays.

The Problem

Asset managers and operational users alike have difficulty locating key assets or equipment when needed.

This can be any kind of asset, for example:
  • Finding a wheelchair to assist a mobility-impaired passenger.
  • Finding a medical scanner needed for a patient test.
  • Locating a tool, or a materials handling hoist, or an elevated work platform.
Pain Points:
  • Uncertainty about the location or current use of assets.
  • Incomplete knowledge of maintenance or calibration history, or how to report issues.
  • Lack of awareness or completeness of asset inventory.
  • Extensive paperwork and manual processes.

The Solution

Blackhawk provides a range of indoor asset tracking solutions. These can be deployed to passively or actively provide location updates, detect movement tracking and help manage and maintain indoor tools and equipment. This includes:

QR Tags

With globally unique ID codes can be used by field staff to update location and status on their smartphones.

BLE Beacons

Can be used to help maintain updates of asset location within proximity to Bluetooth gateways.

Battery-Powered Asset Tracking

Devices can achieve position fix via a range of location systems including GNSS scanning, WiFi signal scanning and cellular tower triangulation. Good, independent position system with superior battery life and movement tracking capabilities.

Indoor Asset Tracking

Devices with LBS capabilities can be attached to assets in hidden locations but still track assets, indoors and outdoors, while providing excellent battery-life.
